There are three forms of comparison:
- positive
- comparative
- superlative

A - Comparison with -er/-est

We use -er/-est with the following adjectives:

Teaching Writing Skills


The most important factor in writing exercises is that students need to be personally involved in order to make the learning experience of lasting value. Encouraging student participation in the exercise, while at the same time refining and expanding writing skills, requires a certain pragmatic approach. The teacher should be clear on what skills he/she is trying to develop. Next, the teacher needs to decide on which means (or type of exercise) can facilitate learning of the target area. Once the target skill areas and means of implementation are defined, the teacher can then proceed to focus on what topic can be employed to ensure student participation. By pragmatically combing these objectives, the teacher can expect both enthusiasm and effective learning.

  3. If possible, tie the subject matter to student needs
  4. Provide feedback through correction activities that call on students to correct their own mistakes
  5. Have students revise work
Choose Your Target Well
Choosing the target area depends on many factors; What level are the students?, What is the average age of the students, Why are the students learning English, Are there any specific future intentions for the writing (i.e school tests or job application letters etc.). Other important questions to ask oneself are: What should the students be able to produce at the end of this exercise? (a well written letter, basic communication of ideas, etc.) What is the focus of the exercise? (structure, tense usage, creative writing). Once these factors are clear in the mind of the teacher, the teacher can begin to focus on how to involve the students in the activity thus promoting a positive, long-term learning experience.

  • What will students be able to do after the exercise?
  • Keep focus to one area of English writing skills
Having decided on the target area, the teacher can focus on the means to achieve this type of learning. As in correction, the teacher must choose the most appropriate manner for the specified writing area. If formal business letter English is required, it is of little use to employ a free expression type of exercise. Likewise, when working on descriptive language writing skills, a formal letter is equally out of place.
 
Keeping Students Involved
With both the target area and means of production, clear in the teachers mind, the teacher can begin to consider how to involve the students by considering what type of activities are interesting to the students; Are they preparing for something specific such as a holiday or test?, Will they need any of the skills pragmatically? What has been effective in the past? A good way to approach this is by class feedback, or brainstorming sessions. By choosing a topic that involves the students the teacher is providing a context within which effective learning on the target area can be undertaken.
 
Correction
Finally, the question of which type of correction will facilitate a useful writing exercise is of utmost importance. Here the teacher needs to once again think about the overall target area of the exercise. If there is an immediate task at hand, such as taking a test, perhaps teacher guided correction is the most effective solution. However, if the task is more general (for example developing informal letter writing skills), maybe the best approach would be to have the students work in groups thereby learning from each other. Most importantly, by choosing the correct means of correction the teacher can encourage rather discourage students.

Inter milan sedag mencoba mendekati Edin Dzeko ke dalam daftar transfer pada musim dingin kali ini.Selain Dzeko, Loic Remy, dan juga pemain Brasil Leandro Damiao juga masuk target belanja Nerazzuri bulan ini. Walaupun Inter sudah kedatangan Tommaso Rocchi pada awal Januari lalu dari Lazio.

Juventus kalah dari Sampdoria

Bermain tandang tidak membuat Sampdoria mudah menyerah. Hal ini terbukti, meski sempat tertinggal dari penalti Sebastin Giovinco pada menit ke-24, Il Doria berhasil bangkit pada babak kedua.
Dengan 10 pemain, setelah Gaetano Berardi diganjar kartu kuning kedua, Il Samp berbalik unggul melalui hasil torehan dua gol dari Mauro Icardi (54') dan (69'). Juventus memiliki peluang untuk menyamakan skor tetapi sayang tendangan voli Mirko Vucinic membentur tiang gawang.

Hasil pertandingan Udinese 3-0 FC Internazionale

FC Internazionale mengalami kekalahan telak dari Udinese di Stadio Friuli, Minggu (6/1) dalam lanjutan pekan ke-19 Serie A Italia. Dua gol Antonio Di Natale dan satu gol dari Muriel mampu membawa Bianconeri menang 3-0.
Sementara Inter harus mengakhiri pertandingan dengan sepuluh pemain setelah Juan Jesus menerima kartu kuning keduanya di babak kedua.
Dengan kekalahan ini, Inter masih tertahan di posisi empat dalam tabel klasemen Serie A. Sementara Udinese mampu naik ke peringkat delapan.
Babak Pertama
Kesempatan mencetak gol pertama dalam pertandingan ini datang di menit 15 ketika striker Udinese Muriel yang dijaga ketat bek-bek Inter, mampu menembak ke arah Samir Handanovic. Eks kiper tuan rumah ini mampu menangkap bola dengan baik.
Menit 25, Rodrigo Palacio tampak dijatuhkan dikotak penalti Udinese. Wasit Giannoccaro‎ meniup peluitnya tetapi tidak menunjuk titik putih. Ia memilih memberi Palacio kartu kuning karena dianggap melakukan diving.
Dua menit berselang, Antonio Di Natale hampir saja mencetak gol lewat tendangan bebas. Sayang, tendangan kerasnya hanya mengenai mistar gawang Handanovic.  
Pertandingan tampak berjalan dalam tempo tinggi di pertengahan babak pertama ini.Kedua tim tampak saling jual-beli serangan. DI menit 38, tendangan keras Walter Gargano dari luar kotak penalti masih mampu ditepis Zeljko Brkic.
Tak lama berselang, Di Natale kembali menebar ancaman lewat tendangan bebas, namun masih melebar. Namun, sampai babak pertama berakhir, kedudukan masih tak berubah.
Babak Kedua
Pasukan Andrea Stramaccioni tampak meningkatkan serangan di babak kedua. Hal ini tampak dengan banyaknya peluang yang diraih oleh Javier Zanetti dkk.
Misalnya di menit 50 ketika Antonio Cassano mampu menusuk ke kotak penalti Udinese. Bola kemudian bergulir ke Jonatahan yang sudah berdiri bebas di mulut gawang. Namun, ia masih tak mampu menendang on target. Rodrigo Palacio menjadi pemimpin serangan Inter dengan sedikitnya dua peluang yang ia dapat. Namun, bomber asal Argentina ini tak mampu mengonversi peluangnya menjadi gol.
Di menit 63, justru Udinese yang mampu mencetak gol ketika Inter sedang mendominasi pertandingan. Antonio Di Natale  mampu mengontrol umpan Andrea Lazzar, kemudian menaklukan Handanovic dengan tembakan first time-nya. Publik tuan rumah bersorak dengan keunggulan 1-0 ini. 
Segalanya tampak buruk bagi Nerazzurri ketika Juan Jesus menerima kartu kuning keduanya setelah ia menginjak kaki Muriel yang sedang berlari menuju kotak penalti Inter. Pemain asal Brasil ini terpaksa meninggalkan lapangan lebih cepat.
Mimpi buruk Inter terus berlanjut ketika Le Zebrette mampu mencetak gol keduanya di menit 75. Dustan Basta memberikan umpan cantik kepada Muriel yang kemudian dengan sepakan kerasnya, ia arahkan ke sudut gawang Inter.
Keunggulan dua gol ini kemudian bertambah empat menit kemudian setelah umpan crossing mendatar Lazzari mampu disambut dengan baik oleh Di Natale. Kapten Udinese ini mencetak gol keduanya sekaligus membawa Udinese unggul 3-0. Sampai peluit panjang dibunyikan, skor tak berubah.

RvP Tinggalkan Arsenal Demi Trofi

AMSTERDAM - Mantan kiper Manchester United, Edwin van der Sar mengaku tidak terkejut melihat kepindahan Robin van Persie dari Arsenal ke United musim panas lalu. Menurut Van der Sar, RvP hijrah demi memenangkan gelar juara seperti yang dia inginkan.
Van Persie menolak untuk memperpanjang kontrak bersama The Gunners, dan memilih Setan Merah sebagai klub barunya. Arsenal sendiri tak bisa menolak tawaran dari United, karena sang striker sudah ngebet ingin meninggalkan tim asuhan Arsene Wenger itu.

Musim lalu bersama Arsenal, RvP menjadi top skor Premier League dengan torehan 30 gol. Van der Sar percaya keputusan meninggalkan Arsenal yang dilakukan pemain internasional Belanda itu adalah keputusan penting dalam kariernya.

“Saya tidak terkejut melihat van Persie di sana (United),” ujar Van der Sar, seperti dilansir BBC, Sabtu (5/1/2013).

“Klub ini (Manchester United) memang selalu memenangkan gelar dan delapan tahun terakhir, Robin belum memenangkan banyak gelar di Arsenal,” katanya.

Kedatangan Van Persie memang membuat skuad United kian garang, khususnya di lini depan. Van der Sar pun menilai wajar meski akhirnya RvP memilih United sebagai klubnya, meski notabenenya mereka merupakan rival dari The Gunners.

“Pada waktu tertentu dalam karier pesepakbola, mereka ingin melihat hal baru di tempat lain. Mereka harus pergi ke luar negeri untuk menuju liga yang lebih besar,” tuturnya.
“Ini terjadi pada Arsenal dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Banyak pemain pergi dan menjadi pemain lebih besar di klub lain,” pungkas pria 42 tahun itu.

Sunderland target Joel Obi set to stay at Inter Milan



Joel Obi's agent says the player is unlikely to leave Inter Milan, but confirmed Sunderland's interest in the Nigerian ace.
The Black Cats have been linked with a January move for the 21-year-old - but his agent insists that a deal is unlikely.

Whilst Sunderland do have an interest in Obi - who has come through the youth ranks at Inter - he is unlikely to move as he is just returning from injury.

"The player is now coming back from a serious injury and I think Inter want to count much on him also considering their need of midfielders," the player's agent Renzo Contratto told Sky Sports.

"There was interest from some teams, including Sunderland, but I think the club and the coach Andrea Stramaccioni consider Joel an important player."

Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder open to move to the Premier League, according to agent

The 28-year-old Holland midfielder is being chased by a number of Europe's top clubs and, although his representative Soren Lerby dismissed speculation linking him with QPR, may opt for a switch to an English club.
lerby told BBC Sport: "He is absolutely not interested in QPR and we haven't heard directly from anyone there.
"England probably has the top league in Europe, so it could appeal, but Wes would want to play for a top team."
neijder is currently embroiled in a contract dispute with Inter and has not played for the Milanese giants since September 25 - despite regaining fitness over two months ago.
Lerby added: "Wesley is one of the best midfielders in Europe. He is fully recovered from injury and just loves to play football, so we need to find a solution to his situation with Inter.
"It's a very, very strange situation for all of us. We should know a lot more in the next week to 10 days."

Tottenham have been tipped as Sneijder's likely destination in the past but Spurs announced they will sign midfielder Lewis Holtby from Schalke in the summer and Moussa Dembele has been in impressive form since arriving at White Hart Lane.
Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp had earlied claimed he had been offered the chance to take Sneijder to Loftus Road this month.
"I was asked by one agent if I wanted to sign Sneijder," said Redknapp.
"Of course I do. However, he's on about £200,000 a week and now he wants to join QPR?
"I won't name the agent, but let's just say I think a deal is unlikely."
